In today’s journalism practice, social media are being utilized by journalists as sources of news despite scepticism on the credibility of these platforms as a result of the absence of gate keeping. Against this backdrop this study examined the perception and adoption of social media as sources of news by print media journalists in Port Harcourt. The study adopted survey method to extract data from a sample of 165 journalists. Among other findings, the study established that 61% of print media journalists in Port Harcourt do not perceive the social media as credible sources of news and therefore do not rely on them for information. Another finding is that adoption of social media as sources of news by Port Harcourt-based print media journalists is due to availability of the social media and time constraint on their part, among other findings. Following the finding that 39% of print media journalists in Port Harcourt perceive the social media as credible sources of news, the study recommends that journalists should at all times verify stories retrieved from the social media in order to ascertain the authenticity or otherwise of such information; professional journalists should get more involved in the dissemination of information on the social media to reduce the rate of misinformation therein.
